- It obliges to formalize a written food contract in all commercial relations, with some exceptions.
- It regulates the minimum content of these contracts and how the price should be negotiated and reflected in the contract.
- It obliges to register in the Register of Food Contracts those signed with primary producers and groups of them.
- It prohibits a set of unfair commercial practices, including deferring payments above highs, destroying value in the chain and unilateral changes in the contract.
- It establishes a sanctioning regime for the case of non-compliance with the provisions of the law and the publication of serious and very serious sanctions.
- It promotes self-regulation through a Code of Good Commercial Practices in Food Contracting, of voluntary adherence.
- It establishes the Food Chain Observatory as a body attached to the MAPA for monitoring, advising, informing and studying the functioning of the food chain and food prices.
